Get to know – David Reyes

What’s your full name?

David Robert Reyes Jr.

Where did you grow up?

Born in Yonkers New York and raised in Denver Colorado.

When did you start skating?

I started skating when I was 9 years old.

What are some of the best cities you’ve skated in?

Atlanta, North Carolina, Denver abs anywhere in the south or Midwest is my favorite area to skate in the world.

Tell me about the trip to Europe when you got hurt – did you have access to cannabis during your recovery stage?

The trip I got hurt was on thrashers king of the road. I won worst slam haha but two weeks later I lost my shit in Moscow! Where there was no cannabis at that time only hash haha which would’ve made everything worse. So I flew home and when I got back to Denver I smoked to pass out but mainly I just rested and cannabis made that seem a lot easier

Any traveling I’ve down with the Sheckler foundation to give to foundations and inspire the youth through skating. I was raised poor and I know the thought process of not thinking anything is possible for me. I am thankful skating has let me and continues to let me be that glimpse of hope and voice for the youth with similar backgrounds.

What cannabis strains make you happy?

I’ve always been a Durban poison guy hahah but I haven’t had that in ages. Out of NUG strains I’d say forbidden fruit or any of the purple haze family. 🏽

How do you unwind from a long day of filming?

Relaxing after a hot to cold shower and then a relaxing spliff and Hulu. Forensic files is my jam.

If a kid walked up to asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?

Enjoy every moment live in the now and know that someone somewhere on this planet grew up just like you or is living an even harder life and all they need is a high five, a conversation and kick flips!

Pass on the stoke and be a roll model for the youth. Positive over negative all day everyday.

What was your recent road trip back home to Colorado like? Do you find connecting with nature helps your overall well being and or skating?

I need to go back to Denver on a regular basis. It keeps me grounded. Humbled by going down memory lane. This trip I drove with my girl friend and along the way we stopped at the Grand Canyon, the arches national park and enjoyed the beautiful drive through the Rocky Mountains. We also brought my dog Minnie aka mindoslice303! Pitbulls are illegal in Denver so I wanted to add my two cents by taking a photo of her in downtown Denver haha which I posted in my story on insta. And as for my overall performance from visiting home I definitely feel more connected with the main reason I started skated. Which is to be complete misfits with your friends enjoying life day by day and most of all being there for one another unconditional love. The free love and happiness skating gives is what I remember when I go back to the starting point.
